Can a landlord take $175 out of the deposit to pay for steam cleaning the carpet if it is not in the lease?

We left the house clean and the carpets vacuumed without stains. The new tenant (the landlords daughter) wanted the carpets steam cleaned and they took it out of our deposit. Can they do this? A carpet cleaning fee was not in our lease. Thank you!

How do I get rid of a horrible mildew spill out of my carpet after putting too much water on it steam cleaning?

I think our steam cleaner is malfunctioning because it’s supposed to suck the water back up out of the carpet, but instead, it left the water and the carpet cleaning solution on the carpet. I tried it again to suck the water up, but it’s not working. There is now an awful mildew smell. What can I do to get rid of it?

How long does it normally take for a carpet to dry after steam cleaning?

I had the carpets in two rooms and a hallway steam cleaned yesterday. One room is completely dry, and so is the hallway, the other is in the corner of the house and is still considerably wet after 24 hours. I can’t open the window in that room so the ventilation is pretty poor. I’ve turned on the space heater an hour ago, it seems to be helping somewhat. I’m worried about mould growing. What is the normal drying time for a carpet cleaning?
Update: Oh, I didn’t know that about the heater, thanks, I’ve shut it off. I have one fan going in there, and am turning the AC on now. I don’t have something like a dehumidifier though. Also, the reason I can’t open the window is there is no screen and many bugs outside the window who’d love to get into a room with a nice damp rug.
The AC and fans worked, it’s almost dry! Thanks everyone.

how much will it cost to have a carpet steam cleaning and deep cleaning for two bedrooms?

I asked different companies and found the price varied from to 0. I am so confused. One company said that steam cleaning didn’t include the chemical liquid and only deep cleaning did. I have no idea about what a normal carpet cleaning process. I don’t want to be rip off.
