After steam cleaning a carpet will the cleaning agents cause it to glow under a blacklight?

Posted on August 12th, 2010 in Steam Cleaning | 3 Comments »

My former apartment management is tying to charge me 00 to replace the carpet in the apartment i lived in because according to them, "the whole entire carpet glowed when they performed a blacklight inspection." I did have a pet in the apt and yes he did mess on the carpet a time or 3. I purchased a hoover steam cleaner and detergent before checking out and cleaned the carpets 2x before the inspection. Once in the morning the day of the inspection. when this was accomplished the carpet was in better condition then when i moved in. I was informed that the carpet may have been slightly damp and that along with the cleaners could have caused the carpet to glow. Any advice that any one can give would be greatly appreciated.

Question on Steam Cleaning Carpets?

Posted on August 11th, 2010 in Steam Cleaning | 4 Comments »

Hello :) I want to rent a rug doctor to clean my carpets (allergies) and here’s my question – I live in a VERY small apartment, is it okay to steam clean around the bed? If not, can the bed be put back in place almost immediately after I steam clean? (If I move it out of the room, It would be in the living room, and really in the way).

Thanks!
Rug Doctor Rentals are .00 – I don’t think I can get a professional to come in for that price.

What are some good cleaning techniques/products that will help remove dust, mold, yeast, and other allergens?

Posted on August 5th, 2010 in Steam Cleaning | 5 Comments »

I am very sensitive to something in my home and my doctor suggest that it is either dust, mold, yeast, or a cleaning toxin my maid used back in December. I tried steam cleaning all my carpets to try to remove the allergens/toxins. I also changed my air filter. ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS??? I am to a point where I will try anything.

How do you recommend cleaning carpets?

Posted on August 2nd, 2010 in Steam Cleaning | 4 Comments »

The carpets in a house we placed an offer on are ick. Well they don’t smell and most of the stains I think will clean out but they eventually need to be replaced. But due to other costs we have to address first we want to clean them. Is calling a professional steam cleaner the best way to go? Does steam cleaning really do a good job? We have shampood carpets before with horrible results.

Have you ever procrastinated on your spring cleaning that you finally got it done on the first day of summer?

I finally rented a steam cleaner today to do my carpets. I just kept putting it off and now it is the first full day of summer. How many other spring cleaning procrastinators are there out there?

steam cleaning carpet caused mold in my apt?

Posted on July 27th, 2010 in Steam Cleaning | 4 Comments »

over the summer i was away from my apt for almost 3 months and during that time the carpet had been steam cleaned. I don’t know if it was the steam cleaning or just the general humidity during the summer but when i came back to my apt, my office chair was COVERED in mold. At first look, from afar i thought "that’s not my chair, it doesn’t have designs on it"…but then up close inspection…GROSS. I had a stack of books on it and when i moved the books there was a rectangular "clean" space, lol. I thought that was my only problem, but when I went into my closet, a lot of my clothes and shoes had some mold on it too…….has this ever happened to anyone?!

I’m a college student renting an apt. with 3 other girls. I have my own room and it’s basically been untouched all summer. My roommate who stayed during the summer says she occasionally opens up the door to my room to air it out as well as open windows. Our apt. doesn’t haven’t A/C, and she says that she opened it up after carpets had been steamed bc it had been extremely humid….steam, of course.

Shouldn’t the company give precautionary measures for customers to take?..like remove all fabrics before they come in to do their service? Should I call in to complain or is there anything I should do? I’m hoping the mold isn’t harmful b/c I plan on using everything still…I’m just doing a LOT of clean top to bottom.
i thought it was only my room, but i just went and looked at my other roommate’s room…STRONG smell of mold, didn’t really see anything, but after close inspection she’s got some in her clothes/shoes and on her wood armoire
Dash: i would think window and fan falls under ventilation? owell, hopefully doesn’t come back

lightening: if you have the windows open during rain..wouldn’t that be a problem? bc rain water definitely gets in, and it’s all carpet.

Does our landlord have the right to make us steam clean the carpets before we leave?

Posted on July 25th, 2010 in Steam Cleaning | 3 Comments »

We’re moving out at the end of the month and our landlord recently told us to steam clean the carpets (which were quite old before we got here) or else it was implied she would take it out of our security deposit. Our carpets are clean, have been vacuumed regularly, and we don’t wear shoes in the house. Does the landlord have the right to demand this of us? Is it normal procedure for tenants to do this or is the landlord being unreasonable here?
