I purchased a secondhand white couch. What is the best method of cleaning?

Posted on September 1st, 2010 in Steam Cleaning | 1 Comment »

I have used a bissel carpet cleaner with some Purple Power and it has lifted some of the dirt. The slip covers for the cushions have been put through the washer and are much whiter than the rest of the couch. I really just want the couch color to be as close to the color of the cushions as possible. Would a steam cleaner work better? Thanks.

Need help, steam cleaned carpeting and it is so sticky?

Posted on August 31st, 2010 in Steam Cleaning | 4 Comments »

My kids seem to not listen when running around the house without shoes on and also with their socks on. They seem to either run bare foot or track mud all over the place. Well I steam cleaned my carpeting with my Bissell and followed the manufacturers recommendations on how much solution to put in my steam cleaner. Well now the carpeting is sticky and if anyone runs through the house it automatically shows the dirt. It looks horrible and I want a clean carpet, not one that smells like feet and old socks.

What works better – a "carpet extractor" or "steam cleaner"?

Posted on August 3rd, 2010 in Steam Cleaning | 5 Comments »

I have an older light colored wall to wall carpet with many spots and stains. It’s a real pain to treat the spots by hand. I’ve considered renting the "steam cleaners" from the grocery store or purchasing a hand held "carpet extractor". They both work the same way, spraying steaming hot water and detergent into the rug, then vacuuming it up along with the dirt or stain.

If you’ve used one of these – or both – please give me the benefit of your advice. How well do they clean mud and food spots, how easy are they to use, and how wet do they leave the carpet? Thanks!

What’s the best cleaning method for severely dirt embedded vinyl tile, and what service is recommended?

Posted on July 26th, 2010 in Steam Cleaning | 1 Comment »

The tile is about 30 yrs old, and we are not replacing it. It’s vinyl tile squares, with the dirt deep in the tile crevices.I was wondering if steam cleaning is the best cleaning, and what company is recommended to clean it.
Thank you very much

steam cleaning a mattress (w/ or w/o detergent)?

Posted on July 8th, 2010 in Steam Cleaning | 3 Comments »

I’m considering steam cleaning my mattress for purposes of getting out any dirt and especially bodily fluids, such as sweat and fingerprints.

Would a consumer-grade steam cleaner do the job? And is there any way I can use detergent/soap while steam cleaning? I want to make sure the mattress is cleaned properly.
I don’t have an industrial/commercial grade "upholstery tool" as described below. So far, I have only considered consumer-grade steam cleaners, and I’ve never used on before, so I’m not sure how it would work.

Is this an impossible endeavour without the right tools (i.e. commercial grade cleaners)?

Is there a household product i can you in place of a store bought cleaner to steam clean my carpets?

Posted on July 3rd, 2010 in Bissell Steam Cleaner | 5 Comments »

I dont want to pay alot of money for store bought cleaners because I have a few larger areas to clean, is there some type of household cleaner or item i can use with the water in its place? I have a bissell steam cleaner. I do NOT want to spot treat the carpet just want something that will collectively clean the entire carpet and life dirt.

Questions about Bissell Quicksteamer Plus? Or any carpet steamer, for that matter?

Posted on June 22nd, 2010 in Bissell Steam Cleaner | 1 Comment »

If you were to use it on a linoleum kitchen floor, WITHOUT the bare floor tool… what would happen?

Also, are cleaning solutions absolutely necessary? I only ask because I saw that Shark Steamcleaner on TV, and they don’t use any solutions at all because the steam is hot enough to kill germs AND loosen dirt.
I was curious about the need for cleaning solutions on both carpet and bare floors. I mean these apartment carpets are just plain dirty… I would hope that the steam would just freshen them up a bit? At least until I have some time to get some cleanser.

And it is definitely quicker to use a mop on the linoleum.. however it seems that no matter how much I mop, the dirt never comes all the way up. Who knows how long it went without mopping before I moved in just a few months ago, so I am thinking that a steam clean would be more efficient.

Steam mops & hardwood floors – What’s up with the streaking and spotting?

Posted on June 19th, 2010 in Bissell Steam Cleaner | 2 Comments »

I have 800 sq ft of recently refinished hardwood flooring. I use a stick to pick up cat hair, dust and the like, but I need some way to clean dirt and such that adheres to the surface. My floor guy told me that to mix a little dish soap and water in a spray bottle, lightly spay a cotton cloth and use that to clean the floors. I tried that a couple of times, but that’s a bit much work for me.

So I’ve been researching steam mops, focusing on the Bissell and Shark models. Most of the online reviews are positive, but I see some complaints of streaks and/or water spots. Anyone know if this is common or what can be done to prevent it? My floors are the color of honey and we have a satin polyurethane on them so even when clean, it’s not a high gloss, if this matters.

If there’s another wood floor safe option, I’d love to hear it!
