What are some good cleaning techniques/products that will help remove dust, mold, yeast, and other allergens?

Posted on August 5th, 2010 in Steam Cleaning | 5 Comments »

I am very sensitive to something in my home and my doctor suggest that it is either dust, mold, yeast, or a cleaning toxin my maid used back in December. I tried steam cleaning all my carpets to try to remove the allergens/toxins. I also changed my air filter. ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS??? I am to a point where I will try anything.

steam cleaning carpet caused mold in my apt?

Posted on July 27th, 2010 in Steam Cleaning | 4 Comments »

over the summer i was away from my apt for almost 3 months and during that time the carpet had been steam cleaned. I don’t know if it was the steam cleaning or just the general humidity during the summer but when i came back to my apt, my office chair was COVERED in mold. At first look, from afar i thought "that’s not my chair, it doesn’t have designs on it"…but then up close inspection…GROSS. I had a stack of books on it and when i moved the books there was a rectangular "clean" space, lol. I thought that was my only problem, but when I went into my closet, a lot of my clothes and shoes had some mold on it too…….has this ever happened to anyone?!

I’m a college student renting an apt. with 3 other girls. I have my own room and it’s basically been untouched all summer. My roommate who stayed during the summer says she occasionally opens up the door to my room to air it out as well as open windows. Our apt. doesn’t haven’t A/C, and she says that she opened it up after carpets had been steamed bc it had been extremely humid….steam, of course.

Shouldn’t the company give precautionary measures for customers to take?..like remove all fabrics before they come in to do their service? Should I call in to complain or is there anything I should do? I’m hoping the mold isn’t harmful b/c I plan on using everything still…I’m just doing a LOT of clean top to bottom.
i thought it was only my room, but i just went and looked at my other roommate’s room…STRONG smell of mold, didn’t really see anything, but after close inspection she’s got some in her clothes/shoes and on her wood armoire
Dash: i would think window and fan falls under ventilation? owell, hopefully doesn’t come back

lightening: if you have the windows open during rain..wouldn’t that be a problem? bc rain water definitely gets in, and it’s all carpet.

Can steam cleaning the walls release VOCs?

Posted on July 15th, 2010 in Steam Cleaning | 2 Comments »

We recently moved into a older house, and my girlfriend started having allergic reactions to something in the air. We initially thought it was a mold issue, but we had inspectors come by and take a look, and they said it was most likely not a mold issue, as they couldn’t find anything overt. They did, however, say that there’s all kinds of stuff that can affect air quality, VOCs being a prime candidate with lots of sources (especially in older houses).

When we first moved in we steam cleaned all the walls to get the cigarette smell out, but now I’m wondering if the paint had VOCs in it, could the cleaning have released/reactivated them? It’s been about a month since we moved in.

Thanks!!

Can I steam clean my mattress?

Posted on May 25th, 2010 in Bissell Steam Cleaner | 4 Comments »

My 2 year old had an accident while sleeping in my bed the other night. I used the woolite for upholstry, and I even tried the pet stain remover stuff. Still that smell is there…yuck! I swear she must have soaked it! Anyway… I do have a steam cleaner. Can I steam clean my mattress without adverse effects? (i.e. not drying well adn then having mold or something) I went to the Bissell website but found very little info. Guess I have to peruse every steam cleaning site out there?!
I guess it isn’t really STEAM cleaning. It’s a DEEP cleaner… like a wet vac kinda thing…I have a Bissell…

What are the disadvantages of using a steam cleaner on my bed matress?

Posted on March 29th, 2010 in Buy Steam Cleaner | 2 Comments »

I’m subletting my furnished apartment and would like to steam clean my mattress when I return.

I figured I would rent a steam cleaner from my local grocery store to deep clean my mattress. However, I read that this can cause mold. Is this true? What the best way to clean the matress/get rid of the subtenant’s body odour?

Thanks!
