We are purchasing a house that was foreclosed on and has been sitting for about 6 months. The carpet is probably 3 years old and appears that a vacuum cleaner has never touched it…LOL! However, I believe the carpet will come clean, it’s just extremely dirty and has a lot of traffic areas in it. I have rented a steam cleaner to try to do it myself, but was wondering if anyone has any advice on any good cleaners to use in the system that they have had a great success with.

When we moved into our house, the carpets were a couple years old but not in bad shape at all. We have been there a couple years now, and we decided to wait for a while till the kids got older to replace them. I have dogs and cats too. We have ALOT of visitors. I was thinking about replacing the front door with a revolving one. Haven’t really had a lot of accidents or spills, but we have heavy traffic. It must have been much more heavier than the last people who lived there. They were already starting to mat and get really heavy traffic dirt. I have used my sisters Bissell steam cleaner but it didn’t do too much. What is the best cleaner. A rented one like Rug Doctor? do they do well? Is it worth the money to get a Professional clean with matted carpets and high traffic dirt? I want to replace it before we move to the new home but not for a year or 2. I am sick of the traffic areas. There is no sense in me putting down area rugs since they get moved and kicked up by the dogs and the many visitors we have every couple days.

I have recently purchased Melaleuca’s Sol-U-Mel and I love it, and I know that you can use it to treat stains on carpets, but is it safe to use in a steam cleaner?
I have cream colored carpet, and while there are no food/drink/etc stains, there are some blackish stains in the higher traffic areas.
I have a Bissell ProHeat 2X and I have tried all of the Bissell products and while they initially work, a few days later, I guess after everything has fully dried, some of the spots return. I usually do 2-3 passes with the steam cleaner.
I have also tried the "old school" method of ammonia and laundry detergent which works a little better, but still, the black spots return and I also have pets. Not to mention, I am 5 months pregnant and don’t need to deal with ammonia.
So does anyone know if I can use Sol U Mel in my cleaner. Sure, I could spot clean but that would take me almost as long to do as just steaming the whole living room. If so, do you use it full strength or diluted? Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

I usually have a Carpet Cleaning service come but that’s becoming a pricey habit. So I’ve tried doing it myself with the BISSELL ProHeat 2X Upright Deep Cleaner. Which worked nicely but I’m sure it can get even better. I don’t own a steam cleaner of my own yet. I want to buy one that I know will do a good job on high traffic areas and a home with a toddler constantly spilling stuff.

I am trying to find a deep cleaning steam carpet cleaner.Does anyone have any good suggestions or reviews. I have 3 cats and a dog and my high traffic areas are getting really bad., Right now I have an upright Bissell and it just doesn’t seem to be cleaning enough.
